Cornfield 02:53
When I was a child, a child, a child I believed in Santa Claus And that there was a wild, a wild, a wild creature in the cornfield And we lived a mile, a mile, a mile from the first convenience store So I learned to snack, to snack on stolen ears of corn Oh, be careful, oh, Be careful what you put in your mouth My baby, oh, be careful, oh, Be careful what you put in your mouth My baby, oh! Then I was a teenager just like any other one And no one knew if I was gonna be a girl or be a boy I know that you know this story but I bet you didn’t know It started with a wild, a wild, a wild creature in the cornfield Oh, be careful, oh, Be careful what you put in your mouth My baby, oh, be careful, oh, Be careful what you put in your mouth My baby, oh! maybe I should run maybe I should run maybe I should run away with my history be careful what comes out of your mouth Now I am a wild, a wild, a wild creature on the hide-a-bed Now I am a modern woman sleeping with the arrowhead Oh, be careful, oh, Be careful what you put in your mouth My baby, oh, be careful, oh, Be careful what you put in your mouth My baby, oh

I'm knockin our wedding bands together in the morning we're holding hands in the morning we're knocking knees together to the tune of the ampersand why make myself an outcast to the lovingest arms I've known? to the arms that love me so well I'm as cold as a tombstone and I don't know why, I... but it feels bad, and it makes me cry til I'm bone dead, til I'm bone dry til I'm bone dry, uh-huh I'm gonna be the one to fight to the one to scream the one to cry I'm gonna need your love tonight your light for better or for worse I lost my fight to be alone I drove myself out in the cold, now baby I'm coming home and I'm coming home, home cuz it feels good, and it lies flat and it holds tight, and it feels fat it feels… fat, fat, fat, fat, fat I'm coming home cuz it feels fat it feels fat uh-huh

the beating wind through the cracks in your car and your heart shaped face in the dark and we are smiling softly as we talk and we are calm as clocks I can feel your love like a rope thrown beyond us as we float you awaken my highest hopes you hold his hand and turn the other cheek you laugh aloud though you can hardly speak you are a wave that crashes on concrete and we are thick as thieves I can feel your love like a rope thrown beyond us as we float you awaken my highest hopes oh he is a part of us how awesome is the cost oh love is an albatross who awakens my hopes highest hopes the beating of a moth against my eyes and I can almost hear him as he flies a little sound of startle and surprise and we are still as skies I can feel your love like a rope thrown beyond us as we float you awaken my highest hopes

I was young once, I was young once, and you are young. And I was in love once, I was in love once, and you are not in love... come and complicate my life, come and make me an unhappy wife, come and put your hand in mine, come and drink all my wine. (ooh... ooh) and I was almost, I was almost a normal girl then you came along and I'm not a tom nor a sweater set and pearls... this is the way to break my heart and you don't even know that you know it letting me hold you in my arms (ooh... ooh) send me a postcard, drop me a line and take some alone time I wrote you a poem, I wrote you a rhyme and I folded it into a valentine... and tucked it underneath my bed chantilly white and blood red some things are better left unsaid I banish the thought from my head and this is the way this is the way this is the way to forget (ooh... ooh)

No One Knows 04:52
I wish I could stay calm I only smile because I'm scared of what we're talking about and yet, I hope to draw you out I miss the days before we met cuz you make me worry about you and when I think you need some help I only talk about myself no one knows what a sorry girl you've been no one knows what a sad, sad queen no one knows what a fog you're in no one knows no one knows no one knows no one knows what you mean no one knows what you mean you give so much of you to me yet still I don't know who you are when you are by yourself is it sublime or is it hell? no one knows what a happy girl you've been no one knows what a mad, mad dream no one knows what a groove you're in no one knows no one knows no one knows no one knows where you've been no one knows where you've been Ooh... if I close my eyes and open up my hands, would I be crowing with surprise or would I cry "No one knows, no one knows, no one knows what I've seen no one knows what I've seen." I'm trying to make you cry to see you as you are it's all about me in the end and I want to be your friend

Some people love what is easiest for people to love. Some people just love who’s loving them. But somehow I knew I just couldn’t really fall for you until you fell out of love with me. I don’t believe it, It’s so unfair, And you’re the first person I’d take anywhere. I’d take you anywhere I’d take you anywhere I’d take you anywhere I’d take you anywhere Let me pick you up Let my body love the thing it loves Let me take you out to the local clubs And listen to the sound of the people living in our town Some of the finest things are free I don’t believe it, It’s so beautiful Someone sings a song, it’s a miracle It’s like a miracle It’s like a miracle It’s like a miracle It’s like a miracle But where’s your song tonight Something’s on your mind You’ve gone quiet Isn’t love enough to make you feel alright I don’t believe it, You just won’t sing And you’re the first person I’d tell anything I’d tell you anything (doesn't repeat - goes straight into the solo) Now I want you back I want you so bad, I want you back How did we get on such a wrong track There’s no going back We can try to keep our friendship intact But some things just aren’t meant to be I don’t believe it Stupid love! And you’re the first person I’m not afraid of I’m not afraid of I’m not afraid of I’m not afraid of I’m not afraid of *here I'll start singing the "echo" part in parentheses* (oh I'd tell you anything) I’d tell you anything (I'd take you anywhere) I’d take you anywhere (ooh it's like a miracle) It’s like a miracle (that I'm not afraid of) I'm not afraid of

about

About the E.P.:
A cornfield is a decidedly midwestern image, fixing Rose in her native place. It is a symbol of immersion, blindness, order and wildness. These seven songs bring issues of childhood and nascent domesticity to light, playing with the first stabs at creating adult relationship and experience. In this collection, Rose sketches the phenomena of holding something so close that you can hardly see it (Cornfield, Highest Hopes, No One Knows, I was young once); and holding something far enough to finally understand it (Like a Miracle, Wedding Bands, the Blue Seed). Culled from the recording sessions from "When the River Meets the Sea" (2008) and "The Rabbit" (2011), these songs feature members of Session Americana and the Sub Rosa songwriting collective. The live, free-wheeling and harmony driven Boston music scene is prominent on the e.p.

About the CD art:
Drawing on midwestern themes at the edge of nature, artist Peter Lalish developed the watercolors and collage approach that beautifully iterate the illusory quality of human experience.

Bandcamp customers will receive a bonus track, the original voice memo recording of "Dead Rabbit," recorded the day it was written on the Sub Rosa songwriting retreat in New Hampshire in 2010.
